Tech industry rallies behind Anthropic in Pentagon fight

Major tech industry groups representing hundreds of companies including Google, Microsoft, and Meta filed an amicus brief urging a court to pause the Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic as a supply chain risk. The March 13 filing, signed by four industry associations, argues the Pentagon misused national security authorities designed for foreign adversaries rather than following typical procurement processes for contractor disputes. The groups warn that allowing the government to blacklist companies and claim security risks makes the entire procurement system "contingent on political favor rather than the rule of law." The Pentagon labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk after officials said the AI company was trying to impose "woke" usage policies on sensitive military operations, while President Trump has also directed federal agencies to stop using Anthropic's Claude. A hearing on whether to grant Anthropic temporary relief is scheduled for March 24.
