DHS Sent Hundreds of Demands to Google and Meta to Expose Anti-ICE Social Media Accounts

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) submitted hundreds of demands to Google and Meta, requesting information to identify social media users who posted content critical of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, according to a report by the Brennan Center for Justice. These demands reportedly targeted individuals not suspected of criminal activity, as stated by civil liberties organizations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) characterized this practice as a challenge to free speech. This information emerged as ICE deployed artificial intelligence surveillance tools, initially developed for border security, to monitor U.S. citizens within the country, according to reports from privacy advocates.
